FIRS Advances E-Invoicing Project to Curb Tax Evasion

As part of efforts to curb chronic tax evasion and revenue leakages, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has concluded a two-day stakeholder engagement on its National E-Invoicing Project.

The event, held in Lagos, convened manufacturing sector stakeholders to deliberate on the initiative and offer sector-specific feedback ahead of its implementation.

The Lagos engagement marks the fifth in a series of sector-focused sessions, following similar forums with tax consultants, large corporations, financial institutions, and oil and gas industry players.

FIRS has adopted a phased approach to ensure that the e-invoicing system is tailored to meet the operational realities of various sectors.

Speaking at the event, Project Manager of the e-invoicing initiative, Mr Mohammed Bawa, highlighted the vital role of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria’s economy.

“The manufacturing sector is the heartbeat of commerce and trade in Nigeria. Without you, daily life as we know it – cooking, eating, and essential activities – would be impossible,” Bawa said.

The E-Invoicing Project is designed to enhance transparency in transactions, simplify tax compliance, and increase government revenue.
