NFF Assures Fans Over Super Eagles’ Luxury Camp After Misinterpreted Video Goes Viral
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has moved to quell a social media storm concerning the Super Eagles’ lodging in Morocco, asserting that a viral video posted by midfielder Mr. Alex Iwobi was misinterpreted and does not reflect the team’s actual, approved four-star accommodation.
The controversy began on Monday when Mr. Iwobi shared a short video that appeared to depict a rundown environment, which was quickly assumed by viewers to be the team’s hotel in Rabat. The footage spread rapidly online, drawing sharp criticism from the public and prompting concerns about the welfare and preparation standards of the national team ahead of their crucial 2026 CAF World Cup playoff semi-final against Gabon.
However, the team’s media officer, Mr. Promise Efoghe, provided a detailed clarification, conforming that the squad is comfortably housed at the modern Rive Hotel and that the viral video merely captured the view of an unrelated, older building visible from a window.
“The Super Eagles are camped at Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building that can be seen from a window,” Mr. Efoghe stated. He emphasised that the hotel was selected for its strategic advantages, adding, “Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium here in Rabat.”
Mr. Efoghe also confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had formally approved the Rive Hotel for its standard amenities, security, and convenience in relation to training and match venues.
The Super Eagles are set to face Gabon on Thursday, with the winner advancing to the final against either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo. The ultimate victor will secure a place in the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff in March 2026, competing for a spot in the World Cup to be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
