Dana Airport Skids Off Runway at Murtala Muhammed Airport

Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport was a scene of high tension on Tuesday morning when a Dana Air flight overshot the runway during landing.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:14 a.m., prompting an immediate response from the airport’s Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARRFS) and other emergency teams. Despite the frightening mishap, all passengers were safely evacuated via the emergency exit gate. The aircraft came to a halt in the grass adjacent to the runway.

The flight, registered as 5N BKI, was en route from Abuja to Lagos. The cause of the runway overshoot remains unclear at this time. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has dispatched investigators to the site to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.

An NSIB source informed our reporter that an official statement from the bureau would be forthcoming shortly.

Dana Air acknowledged the incident in a statement, expressing relief that all 83 passengers and crew members disembarked without any injuries. The airline praised the crew’s professionalism in managing the situation. The involved aircraft has been grounded by Dana Air’s maintenance team for a thorough investigation.

The statement read: “We extend our gratitude to the airport authorities and our crew for their swift and effective response, ensuring the safe disembarkation of all passengers. We also apologize to our passengers on the affected flight for any inconvenience caused and appreciate their patience and understanding.”

Dana Air reassured its customers of its unwavering commitment to safety, stating, “We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as they investigate the incident’s circumstances.”
