Corpers to Earn N77,000 Monthly as FG Increases Allowance

The Federal Government has approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to ₦77,000, effective from July 2024.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the NYSC’s spokesperson, Caroline Embu, confirmed that the pay rise aligns with the newly enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

According to Embu, the approval was detailed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated 25th September 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Ekpo Nta.

“Prior to this, the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had visited the Chairman, advocating for a more robust welfare package for Corps Members,” Embu stated.

“The NYSC boss expresses gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely intervention, hoping it will not only provide much-needed relief to Corps Members but also boost their morale as they continue serving the nation,” she added.

Before this recent increase, Corps Members had been receiving a monthly allowance of ₦33,000. This follows a previous increment in 2020, where allowances were raised from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000 after the signing of the ₦30,000 minimum wage bill.

President Bola Tinubu signed the new minimum wage bill into law in July 2024, raising the national minimum wage to ₦70,000.
