Airlines Face NCAA Sanctions for False Departure Schedules

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a stern warning to airlines about engaging in deceptive departure time scheduling. During a briefing at the NCAA’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, Acting Director General Chris Najomo emphasized the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards regulatory infractions.
Speaking through the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, Najomo stressed that airlines must cease such practices or face stringent regulatory actions. He highlighted that the NCAA has streamlined licensing processes, reducing the time required to obtain an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), and expects airlines to reciprocate by providing top-tier services to passengers.
“It has come to our attention that some airlines are advertising deceitful departure times,” Najomo stated. “NCAA regulations prohibit airlines from displaying false departure times on their counters, advertisements, or websites. We have intensified monitoring, and offenders will face serious regulatory consequences.”
Najomo reiterated the NCAA’s commitment to safety, discipline, and economic regulation, citing the recent suspension of ten Private Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF) holders for failing to comply with recertification requirements issued in April 2024. He noted the importance of treating passengers fairly, emphasizing that while the NCAA supports profitable airline operations, passenger satisfaction remains paramount.
In closing, Najomo reaffirmed the NCAA’s dedication to enhancing the ease of doing business within the aviation sector, urging operators to uphold their end of the bargain by delivering exceptional service to passengers.
