AFCON 2025: Round of 16 Fixtures Confirmed as Knockout Stage Begins
Fixtures for the Round of 16 at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 have been confirmed following a thrilling and highly competitive group stage.
The knockout phase will run from January 3 to January 6, with two matches scheduled daily at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Hosts Morocco will face Tanzania on Sunday in Rabat, buoyed by home support as they pursue a first continental title in 50 years after topping Group A. Tanzania qualified as one of the four best third-placed teams from Group C, setting up an intriguing contest.
Later on Sunday, South Africa will meet Cameroon in Rabat, with coach Mr. Hugo Broos coming up against the Indomitable Lions, whom he guided to the 2017 title.
The round opens on Saturday as 2021 champions Senegal take on Sudan in Tangier, aiming to assert their pedigree at the start of the knockout phase.
Mali will face Tunisia later that evening in Casablanca, with Mali chasing a maiden AFCON crown and Tunisia hoping to relive their 2004 triumph.
Seven-time champions Egypt, winless at the tournament since 2010, will play Benin in Agadir on Monday as the Pharaohs seek to end a long title drought.
Nigeria, one of the standout teams in the group stage, will confront Mozambique in Fès, targeting an improvement on their silver-medal finish at AFCON 2023.
Tuesday’s fixtures will see Algeria battle DR Congo in Rabat before defending champions Côte d’Ivoire close the round against Burkina Faso in Marrakech.
