Boost for Super Eagles as Osimhen Declared Fit for South Africa Clash

In a welcome relief for the Super Eagles, Victor Osimhen, the African Footballer of the Year, has been declared fit to play in Nigeria’s semifinal clash against South Africa at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Earlier concerns arose when Osimhen experienced abdominal discomfort, preventing him from joining the team’s flight from Abidjan to Bouake on Monday. The team’s doctors worked diligently to ensure his recovery, with initial reports suggesting possible replacements if he remained unfit.

Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji, clarified that Osimhen’s fitness would be assessed upon reaching Bouake, dispelling premature reports of his clearance to play. However, Nigeria Football Federation’s Director of Media, Ademola Olajire, confirmed Osimhen’s availability for the game.

The 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner, known for his recent performance in the tournament, was substituted in the quarterfinal against Angola. With Kelechi Iheanacho and Joe Aribo sidelined due to injuries, Osimhen’s presence is crucial for the team.

The Eagles, ranked 42nd in the world, face South Africa in what promises to be an intense semifinal at the Stade de la Paix. The clash, a repeat of their 2000 encounter, holds historical significance, and both teams are poised for a highly competitive match. The official referee for the game is Amin Mohamed Omar from Egypt, with the match scheduled to kick off at 6:00 p.m.
