US Lists 124 Nigerians for Deportation Over Criminal Convictions
The United States has published the names and photographs of 124 Nigerians slated for deportation as part of its ongoing immigration enforcement campaign.
In a statement published on its website, the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the affected individuals had been convicted of various crimes and placed on what it described as its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal register.
“The US Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” the statement, published on Wednesday, read in part.
“Under DHS leadership, the hard-working men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst – including the illegal aliens you see here.”
The department, however, did not specify when the deportations would take place.
According to the agency, the removals form part of a broader immigration enforcement exercise. It said those listed had been convicted of serious offences, including assault and wire fraud.
The list also includes nationals of Cuba, Cameroon, Niger, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mexico, and Honduras.
The latest action is part of the immigration enforcement measures introduced by the administration of President Donald Trump following his return to office for a second term on January 20, 2025.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has introduced a series of measures aimed at curbing illegal immigration, including stricter border controls and the deportation of undocumented migrants.
In June, the Trump administration imposed partial visa restrictions on Nigerians over visa overstays and other immigration-related concerns.
The development follows the deportation of at least 60 people to Ghana since September. Last month, however, a group of lawyers filed a case against Ghana before Africa’s top human rights court on behalf of deportees transferred there under the United States’ third-country deportation policy.
