Embrace Disruptive Technologies, NCC Advises Businesses

Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice-Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has urged businesses to adapt to the potentials of disruptive technologies that have been adopted worldwide to enhance productivity and sustainability.

In a statement signed by Dr. Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, Danbatta emphasized the significant role technology plays in shaping our world, with recent advancements occurring at an unprecedented pace.

As the world faces the 4th Industrial Revolution, various ICT advancements, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain Technology, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Fifth Generation (5G), are fundamentally changing every aspect of people’s lives and reshaping economic, social, and cultural paradigms globally.

The EVC listed other emerging technologies that demonstrate the potential to transform industries and business models.

Danbatta stressed the importance of businesses embracing innovation and adapting to the changing landscape, stating that agile companies willing to experiment with emerging technologies will gain a competitive edge in their respective industries.

He assured that NCC’s strategic management plan reflects the Commission’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to transform industries and drive positive change. By embracing tech disruption, the Commission aims to empower individuals, businesses, and communities to thrive in the digital age.

The President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Dr Michael Olawale-Cole, commended the NCC for providing a predictable telecom regulatory environment.

He praised the theme of this year’s ICTEL Expo, recognizing the far-reaching impact disruptive technologies are having on businesses worldwide.

During the 2023 edition of the Information and Communication Technology ICT and Telecommunications (ICTEL) expo organized by LCCI in Lagos, NCC’s Zonal Controller, Lagos, Mr. Yomi Arowosafe, received an LCCI appreciation award on behalf of Danbatta for his contribution to the success of the event.

The expo brought together industry leaders and ICT innovators to discuss the latest trends and developments in the technology sector.
