FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday to Mark Workers Day

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, 1 May 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, commended Nigerian workers for their diligence and sacrifice, noting their vital contribution to the nation’s economic growth and global standing.
“There is dignity in labour. The dedication and commitment to the work we do are fundamental to nation-building,” the statement read.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo called for a sustained culture of innovation and productivity among workers, urging them to raise the standard of their professional practices in order to enhance governance and ensure that all Nigerians benefit fully from the country’s wealth and resources.
He reiterated that peace is essential for industrialisation and economic advancement.
The Minister also assured citizens that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of both Nigerians and foreigners residing in the country.
While wishing workers a joyful celebration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful, emphasising that the administration is fully committed to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda.
