FG Unveils Revenue Collection Platform, To Enhance Remita

The Federal Government has launched a new revenue management system, the Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS), aimed at streamlining public sector revenue collection and payments.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) clarified that despite the introduction of the new platform, Remita, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-approved payment gateway, will remain operational.

According to OAGF spokesperson Bawa Mokwa, Remita will be integrated into TMRAS alongside other eligible Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) to promote liberalisation and efficiency in government revenue collection and remittances.

The TMRAS initiative was developed in line with directives from President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to enhance treasury revenue assurance and improve budget performance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“TMRAS is designed to coordinate, streamline, and manage the Federal Government’s revenue collections and payments for all MDAs,” the statement read. “It will ensure the liberalisation of government revenue payment processes, enhance revenue collection, and facilitate efficient, real-time analysis of transaction data.”

The OAGF clarified that while Remita remains one of the approved channels for revenue payments, other CBN-licensed payment service providers will now be permitted to operate under the new system.

“TMRAS will allow multiple secure payment platforms to connect, ensuring greater flexibility and efficiency in the government’s financial ecosystem,” the statement added.

To address concerns from revenue payers and the public, the OAGF confirmed that Remita would continue as the sole approved payment gateway for Federal Government transactions for at least two months. However, efforts are underway to transition the front-end payment infrastructure under government control and expand the system to accommodate additional licensed payment service providers.
