Adelabu Announces $800m Boost for Power Grid Expansion and Infrastructure

The federal government has announced plans to release $800 million under the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) to significantly enhance Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, stated that the funds would be allocated to constructing electricity substations and distribution lines as part of the PPI, also known as the Siemens project. Adelabu made the announcement during a facility tour of the TBEA Southern Power Transmission and Distribution Industry in Beijing, China, where he attended the China-Africa Cooperation Summit.
The PPI, a deal between the Nigerian and German governments, aims to modernise, rehabilitate, and expand the national grid by investing in the entire electricity value chain, including generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
“The funds will be used to construct substations for Lot 2 and distribution lines for Lot 3, with $400 million allocated to each lot,” the statement
