National Grid Plunges Country into Darkness for Fifth Time This Year

The national grid has collapsed for the fifth time this year, plunging many areas into darkness.

Although the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to comment on the matter, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) reported that the grid collapsed at around 2:55 pm on Monday.

“We understand that some of our customers are still without power due to a system failure from the national grid at 2:55 pm today, 5th August 2024,” AEDC posted on X.

However, AEDC assured customers that they are working with other relevant parties to restore the system. “Please be assured that the system is gradually stabilising, and we are working diligently with all relevant stakeholders to restore power to the affected areas as quickly as possible,” the company said.

The grid has collapsed five times in 2024, with the first incident occurring on 4th February. Subsequent collapses happened on 28th March, 15th April, and 6th July.
