NNPC Launches Emergency Measures to Boost Oil Output

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has declared a state of emergency on oil and gas production. Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari announced this during the 23rd Nigeria Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition (NOG Energy Week) in Abuja.

Kyari stated that NNPC has declared war on the challenges affecting crude oil production, emphasizing the need for timely action to achieve production targets. He revealed that Nigeria could produce two million barrels of crude oil per day without new rigs, but delays in procurement processes and other obstacles have hindered this goal.

To address these challenges, Kyari said NNPC will replace old crude oil pipelines and introduce a rig-sharing program with partners, ensuring rigs remain in the country for four to five years. He called for industry collaboration to reduce production costs and boost output.

Kyari also highlighted NNPC’s commitment to investing in critical midstream gas infrastructure, including the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipelines. These investments aim to boost domestic gas production and supply for power generation and industrial development.
