Another Power Outage as National Grid Collapses Again

Nigeria’s national electricity grid has collapsed once again, marking the 12th incident this year.

The collapse occurred on Wednesday at approximately 2:09 pm, as confirmed by a tweet from the official handle of Nigeria’s National Grid.

“A major grid setback has occurred, and restoration efforts are set to commence,” the tweet stated.

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos Disco) also confirmed the incident in a statement to its customers, noting that the collapse occurred at about 1:33 pm, resulting in widespread power outages across its service area.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is stabilised,” said Dr Friday Elijah, Head of Corporate Communications at Jos Disco.

This latest failure brings the total number of grid collapses in 2024 to 12, following 11 incidents recorded between January and November.
