Sowore Grilled by Police Over Allegations of Officer Extortion

Rights activist Omoyele Sowore was questioned by the Force Intelligence Bureau in Abuja on Monday regarding a viral video alleging extortion by police officers.
The video, recorded on the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road in Lagos, showed Sowore confronting officers who had flagged down his vehicle and demanded the driver park. The footage sparked widespread criticism and prompted the police to summon Sowore for clarification.
Sowore arrived at the Bureau accompanied by his lawyers and supporters, who sang solidarity songs outside the premises.
This is not Sowore’s first encounter with law enforcement. In September 2024, he was briefly detained at the same airport over alleged links to the #EndBadGovernance protests. Earlier in February, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed charges of treasonable felony against him following a notice of discontinuance filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation.
