Police Detain Woman for Using 10-Year-Old Niece as Drug Courier

The Lagos State Police have apprehended a 44-year-old woman on charges of allegedly exploiting her 10-year-old niece as a drug courier.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, the arrest was made last Wednesday. The incident came to light when the young girl was found wandering the streets and subsequently brought to the Pen Cinema Police Division in Agege.

Upon her arrival at the police station, the divisional police officer arranged for the girl to bathe while efforts were made to locate her parents. During this process, law enforcement officers discovered a substance believed to be Cororado concealed in her undergarments.

This startling discovery prompted a deeper investigation, revealing that this illegal activity had been ongoing for a considerable period. The police extended their inquiry to the suspect’s residence, eventually leading to her apprehension.

The accused, when questioned, confessed to the crime, acknowledging that she had been employing her niece to transport drugs from her home to the shop where she sells them. This method was allegedly devised to circumvent police checkpoints and scrutiny.

SP Hundeyin emphasized the seriousness of the situation, highlighting that the suspect’s actions posed a significant threat to public safety. He stated that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served and that the full extent of the law will be applied.

The young girl will be reunited with her family, while the suspect will face legal proceedings for her alleged involvement in the drug courier scheme. This incident underscores the importance of safeguarding the welfare and wellbeing of minors and maintaining the integrity of law enforcement efforts.
