2027 Elections: Kwankwaso, Duke Meet Obasanjo in Abeokuta

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo hosted former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday.

While the exact details of their discussions remain unclear, the meeting is believed to be linked to political strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso, who was the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, shared details of the visit on his official X account on Saturday evening.

According to him, the meeting, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, revolved around pressing national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria.

“I was delighted to visit President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, accompanied by my friend, His Excellency Donald Duke, and other associates,” Kwankwaso wrote.
“Our discussions centred on critical national matters, particularly the future of politics and governance in Nigeria. We are deeply grateful to Baba for his warm hospitality and invaluable support.”

This is not the first time Kwankwaso has met with Obasanjo. Just last month, the former president attended the wedding of Kwankwaso’s daughter in Kano, alongside other prominent political and business leaders.

Obasanjo, who donned the symbolic red cap of the Kwankwasiyya Movement at the ceremony, was warmly received by Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
