Assembly Seeks Probe of Former Kaduna Governor, El-Rufai, for Abuse of Office

An ad hoc committee of the Kaduna State House of Assembly has recommended the investigation and prosecution of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for abuse of office and money laundering. The committee, chaired by Henry Zacharia, presented its report during a plenary session on Wednesday.
According to the report, many loans obtained during El-Rufai’s administration were misused, with due process often not followed. Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, Yusuf Liman, revealed that the El-Rufai administration allegedly siphoned off N423 billion, leaving the state with significant liabilities.
The committee recommended the immediate suspension of the current Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, who also served under El-Rufai, as well as the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board. It called for a thorough investigation of key appointees from the previous administration by law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies.
The committee was tasked with examining the state’s loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023, the period during which El-Rufai served as governor.
