Lagos Power Shortage: TCN Blames Faulty Transmission Lines for 350MW Cut

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has attributed the ongoing power outages affecting parts of Lagos to faults in its Omotoso-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the company’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that damage to towers 420 to 422 on the transmission line had led to a reduction of approximately 350MW in bulk electricity supply to Lagos, impacting both Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos).

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announces that a transmission line snap occurred between towers 420 and 422 on the Omotoso-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line on Saturday, 9 March 2025.

“This incident has resulted in a reduction of approximately 350MW of bulk electricity supply to Lagos, affecting both Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies. The temporary drop in bulk power supply has led to significant load shedding within the Eko and Ikeja franchise areas,” the statement read.

TCN assured the public that its engineers had been mobilised to the site and that repair work was already underway to resolve the issue.

“TCN has deployed its engineers to the site and transported the necessary materials to repair the affected sections of the 330kV Omotoso-Ikeja West transmission line.

“Repairs are expected to be completed within three days, after which full bulk power supply will be restored through the transmission line,” the statement added.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused to the government, electricity distribution companies, and consumers in Lagos State, assuring them that efforts were being made to restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
