75-Year-Old Man, Two Others Docked For House Breaking, Stealing

Three individuals, including a 75-year-old man, Olusola Omotoyinbo, were arraigned before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for their alleged involvement in house breaking and stealing.

The other two defendants are Adeola Oni, a 14-year-old female, and Kemi Isaiah, a 30-year-old female. All three defendants have unknown addresses and are facing a three-count charge, which includes house breaking, stealing, and receiving stolen money.

The alleged offenses occurred on June 23 in Ikole-Ekiti, where Oni reportedly broke into the residence of one Adeleye Titilayo and stole N640,000 in cash and other food items valued at N38,000, belonging to the complainant. Isaiah and Omotoyinbo were accused of receiving the stolen money from Oni.

Inspector Olubu Apata, the Police Prosecutor, informed the court of the charges brought against the defendants. The offenses are in contravention of Sections 322(a) and (b) and 295 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021, and are punishable under Sections 302 and 343(1).

The prosecutor requested an adjournment to allow time for studying the case file and preparing witnesses.

During the hearing, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and they did not have legal representation.

Chief Magistrate Mrs. Kehinde Awosika granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N20,000, with one surety each required to post the same amount.

The case was adjourned until August 10 for further proceedings and hearing.
