Joke Silva Opens Up About Her Love for Husband Despite His Condition

Renowned actress, Joke Silva, has recently spoken out about the challenges she has faced in her marriage with her husband, Olu Jacobs, who is battling dementia. Olu Jacobs has been suffering from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) since 2021.
In a recent interview with media personality and actress, Nancy Isime, Joke Silva expressed her enduring love for her husband, despite his illness. She shared insights into their long-standing relationship, spanning 37 years of marriage and 42 years of knowing each other.
“The journey hasn’t been easy. In the early years of our marriage, we didn’t even realize that the marriage had begun. It took a lot of acceptance because I would wonder why he was behaving in certain ways,” Joke Silva revealed, reflecting on their early experiences.
She continued, “There came a point where I had to accept that this is the reality and that the person I married is no longer fully present about 80% of the time.”
Joke Silva acknowledged the incredible qualities her husband possessed before the onset of his condition, highlighting his role as an exceptional father to their children and a wonderful husband who was also her closest confidant.
“In this journey with dementia, it feels like I am taking care of my father. The husband I knew is no longer here in the same way, but I still love this man who remains with me,” she expressed, illustrating the complexity of their situation.
