Naira Abuse: Davido and Obi Cubana Show Support as Cubana Chief Priest Gets N10 Million Bail

Lagos socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has been granted N10 million bail after pleading not guilty to a three-count charge of alleged Naira abuse filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Following the bail announcement, there has been a surge of support from prominent figures in the entertainment industry.

Leading the support are renowned musician Davido and entrepreneur Obi Cubana, both of whom expressed their solidarity with Cubana Chief Priest on social media. Responding to the bail news on Instagram, the socialite expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, stating, “Now it’s confirmed, CP (Chief Priest) is not small. Money na water.”

Davido commented on the post, asserting that Cubana Chief Priest should not be jailed and expressing his inability to endure six months without seeing him. Meanwhile, Obi Cubana humorously wrote, “This must be Abidoshaker you used!!Error! Filename not specified”.

The court granted bail with two sureties in like sum, both of whom must be gainfully employed with the Federal or State Government and not below Grade Level 16. Okechukwu, also known as the ‘Celebrity Barman’, was alleged to have committed the offence on February 13, 2024.

The EFCC Prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, filed charges against Okechukwu on April 4, 2024. The counts include tampering with N500 (Five Hundred Naira) notes during social events on various occasions, contravening Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.

Okechukwu’s arraignment closely follows the EFCC’s charges against controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar grounds, resulting in a six-month prison sentence.
