ASUU Joins Nationwide Strike Called by NLC and TUC

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has instructed its members to participate in the nationwide strike declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC). ASUU’s National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, issued a circular on Monday, directing members to commence the strike at midnight, aligning with the broader industrial action.
In the circular addressed to zonal coordinators and chairpersons, Osodeke reaffirmed ASUU’s decision to join the nationwide indefinite strike initiated by NLC and TUC. The circular urged zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons to mobilize members promptly for participation in the strike.
ASUU’s decision to join the nationwide strike is a response to the recent assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero, allegedly carried out by the Nigerian police and the Imo State government. The union, as an affiliate of NLC, aims to protect the interests of Nigerian workers and support the broader leadership of the union in this collective action.
