Tinubu to Announce New Date for National Census, Says NPC Chairman

President Bola Tinubu would soon announce the rescheduled date for the national population and housing census, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Kwarra, disclosed on Thursday. The 2023 Census was postponed in April.
According to Kwarra, who spoke after a meeting with the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, during which the Commission provided an update on its progress, the Commission had submitted its report to the president, who would make a decision on the new date after reviewing the report.
Kwarra emphasized that the delay in conducting the census would result in additional expenses for the Commission, as it had already utilized N100 billion of the requested N200 billion.
Regarding the meeting with the president, Kwarra explained, “We provided him with a comprehensive overview of our preparedness and the expected outcomes. I am pleased to report that Mr. President has generously pledged his support to the Commission for the census and our preparatory activities. Although we are not encountering any obstacles, his endorsement has given us the motivation and encouragement to enhance our preparations.”
He further stated, “We will continue with our preparations and await the president’s announcement of the census date. We have submitted our proposal, which he will study before providing us with a response. We are grateful for his assurance of support and appreciate his recognition of the importance of accurate data for national planning and development.”
