AFCON 2023: Bafana Bafana Coach Confident Ahead of Semifinal Clash

South Africa’s head coach, Hugo Broos, expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to face Nigeria in the semifinal of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a thrilling penalty shootout win over Cape Verde.

Broos commended his players’ penalty shootout prowess, attributing it to their dedicated training. He acknowledged the skepticism surrounding South Africa’s performance but emphasized their belief in themselves.

The upcoming semifinal against Nigeria, scheduled at the Stade de la Paix, Bouake on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Nigeria time, is anticipated to be a challenging encounter, considering Nigeria’s formidable players like Lookman.

Reflecting on the stress of the penalty shootout, Broos humorously remarked on the toll it took on him. South Africa, now in their first Cup of Nations semifinal since 2000, sees their AFCON journey as a success, regardless of the upcoming match against Nigeria.

Broos acknowledged the pressure and nerves in previous matches but believes the semifinal will carry less pressure, emphasizing the team’s unexpected success in reaching this stage of the tournament.
