Adeleke Accuses Oyetola of Inciting Unrest, Urges Tinubu to Intervene

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to rein in the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, over an alleged plot to incite chaos and anarchy in the state.

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, Adeleke accused his predecessor of directing the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to enforce a non-existent court ruling by forcefully reinstating local government officials on Monday.

“The crux of the matter is the audacious attempt to reinstate council chairmen who were removed by a subsisting court judgment, relying on a separate court decision that lacks a consequential order,” Adeleke stated.

He clarified that the removal of the chairmen predated his tenure as governor, countering claims that he had dismissed them through an executive order.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I had no involvement in the sacking of the chairmen and councillors elected in the Osun 2022 local government elections. Their removal was the result of two separate judgments by the Federal High Court in Osogbo,” he asserted.

Adeleke stressed that adherence to the rule of law is fundamental in a democratic society. He advised those dissatisfied with court rulings to seek redress through the appellate system, up to the Supreme Court if necessary.

The governor urged Tinubu to uphold legal principles by directing security agencies to ignore any unlawful orders from Oyetola.

“I call on Mr President to instruct the National Security Adviser and the Attorney General of the Federation to verify that the Court of Appeal judgment did not reinstate the sacked local government chairmen and councillors. They should also acknowledge that a valid court ruling had already removed them from office,” he said.
