Implementation of New Minimum Wage Starts from April 2024, Says FG

The Federal Government has disclosed plans for a new minimum wage regime set to take effect on April 1, 2024. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, revealed that the current N30,000 minimum wage will conclude by the end of March 2024.
Mohammed emphasized the government’s concerted efforts to alleviate economic hardship by introducing palliatives before the anticipated transition to the new wage regime in April 2024.
“In negotiations with Labour, we stressed the complexity of fixing the wage issue, and a committee, inclusive of Labour representatives, will be constituted to address this,” stated Mohammed.
He further conveyed ongoing discussions with Labour regarding the committee formation, emphasizing that Nigerian workers should anticipate the implementation of a new wage structure following the expiration of the current wage regime.
Mohammed underlined the government’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive salary structure across Nigeria, encouraging the private sector and state governors to align with this initiative.
“We anticipate a synchronized effort where both the private sector and state governors will adopt similar wage structures,” Mohammed affirmed during his briefing with journalists in Abuja.
