Eagles Keeper, Uzoho, Deactivates Social Media Account Over Criticisms

Francis Uzoho, goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, has deactivated his social media account in response to mounting criticisms of his performances.

Uzoho faced substantial backlash from Nigerian fans, who singled him out for the Eagles’ drawn matches in Group C. In both the 1-1 draw against Lesotho and the match against Zimbabwe, critics pointed to Uzoho, who conceded a free-kick goal.

His errors, including the parrying of a free-kick into his own net during the 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia, led to vehement accusations from football fans. Moreover, a critical long-range strike from Ghana’s Thomas Partey slipped through Uzoho’s fingers during the 1-1 game in Abuja, sealing Ghana’s World Cup ticket and intensifying criticism.

In response to the barrage of criticism for his string of mistakes, Uzoho deactivated his social media account. It remains uncertain if he will be called up for the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
