Portable Lands in Hot Water Again, Remanded in Ilorin Prison

Controversial street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet bail conditions.
An Upper Area Court in Ilorin on Monday granted him bail of ₦1 million with two sureties. One surety must be a Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other must own property within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, backed by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
Portable faces multiple charges including criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and inciting public disturbance, stemming from a petition filed by veteran Fuji musician Saheed Osupa. The petition followed an Instagram livestream on 19 March 2025, during which Portable made derogatory remarks about Osupa.
“This man is trying to dim my shine! He eats snail with the shell—no sense. Osupa has a tortoise in his belly. He removed my song from Apple Music and Spotify to stop me from making money,” he alleged.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed that Portable was arrested in Abeokuta and transferred to Ilorin following a warrant issued by a magistrate.
Charges against him include criminal defamation (Section 392), criminal intimidation (Section 397), and inciting public disturbance (Section 114) of the Penal Code. Relevant sections of the Cybercrimes Act 2015 and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2020 also apply.
The presiding magistrate, Sunday Adeniyi, adjourned the case to 30 April and urged all parties to maintain decorum.
This is Portable’s second arrest this year. In February, he was granted bail in Ogun State for assaulting government officials and obstructing enforcement activities.
The feud with Osupa also involves copyright disputes. Osupa’s management accused Portable of infringing on intellectual property rights with his 2023 track Fuji Shakushaku, which was removed from streaming platforms.
Although Portable later issued a public apology, Osupa’s management, Digital Music Commerce and Exchange Ltd (DMCE), reaffirmed its intention to protect the artiste’s intellectual property.
