Confronting Challenges Requires National Mindset Change – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu acknowledged yesterday that Nigerians are enduring difficult times, but emphasized that the nation is not alone in facing harsh economic realities. Speaking in Lagos during a meeting with a delegation from the National Assembly, Tinubu highlighted the importance of a shift in the country’s value system to foster progress.

“Yes, there is poverty; there is suffering in the land. We are not the only people facing such challenges, but we must confront our issues head-on,” Tinubu stated, according to a release from his media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale.

The president called for a change in the mindset of Nigerians, particularly towards more productive economic behavior. “We must move away from rent-seeking attitudes and become more productive. The need to stop smuggling and economic sabotage is crucial,” he said. Tinubu condemned the acts of removing rail tracks and stealing electric cables, urging a nationwide campaign to change the value system.

He reiterated his commitment to not abandoning Nigeria despite the difficulties. “Good economics at a harsh time is the challenge we must face. I will not turn my back on Nigeria,” he declared.

Tinubu praised the National Assembly for their support, attributing some of the government’s significant achievements to their partnership. “It is with great pride that I have the best of partners in the National Assembly. We must be inclusive in our efforts to meet the needs of our people. It’s a daunting task, but we cannot shy away from ensuring the country survives the hardship,” he asserted.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Tinubu assured Nigerians of his determination to turn the situation around. He also stressed the importance of eliminating banditry and terrorism to boost agricultural productivity and improve infrastructure.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who led the delegation, expressed the legislature’s commitment to improving the nation’s ease of doing business through legislative amendments.

After the meeting, President Tinubu met with the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
