The Nigeria Customs Service has taken proactive measures to curb smuggling activities by intercepting 15 trucks loaded with food items in Sokoto State. This strategic move aims to address the significant impact of smuggling on the escalating prices of essential commodities in the country.

According to Abubakar Chafe, the spokesperson for the NCS Sokoto Command, the trucks were apprehended along the Gwadabawa-Illela road. The interception was prompted by the substantial quantity of farm produce being transported by the trucks. Currently, the trucks are in the custody of the command, and an investigation has been initiated to determine the origins and intended destinations of the seized food items.

The NCS Sokoto Command collaborated with the Federal Operation Unit and the Intelligent Unit of the Service to conduct this operation in response to the prevailing inflation of food items across the nation. This concerted effort underscores the urgency of addressing the challenges posed by smuggling and its detrimental effects on the country’s economy and food security.
