The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has urged Nigerians to modify their National Identification Number (NIN) details exclusively through its official self-service portal.

In a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications on Monday, the agency emphasised that the advisory was issued to safeguard data security and integrity.

NIMC assured Nigerians that its self-service portal is secure, reliable, and allows users to update their information conveniently from any location.

The commission stated, “The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) wishes to inform the public that, to ensure the security and integrity of NIN data, modifications can only be carried out via the official NIMC self-service portal: Selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.”

It warned against using unauthorised websites for NIN modifications, highlighting the risks associated with third-party platforms.

“Do not attempt to modify your NIN data on unauthorised websites, as this may compromise your personal information and expose you to identity theft,” the statement read.

NIMC further outlined the benefits of its self-service portal, stating that it ensures data accuracy while allowing Nigerians to modify their details without visiting an enrolment centre.

“By using the official NIMC self-service portal, you can rest assured that your data is secure and protected. Additionally, you will enjoy the convenience of updating your information anytime, from anywhere,” the commission added.
