Ogun Monarch Remanded in Prison Over Viral Assault Case

A magistrate court in Ifo, Ogun State, has remanded the suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, at a correctional facility in Ilaro after he failed to meet the stringent bail conditions set by the court.
The embattled monarch was arraigned on Tuesday on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, following a viral video showing him allegedly assaulting an elderly community chief, Areola Abraham.
In the widely circulated footage, Ogunjobi was seen berating and threatening Abraham while accusing him of conspiracy.
The monarch pleaded not guilty to all charges, but the presiding magistrate set bail at ₦5 million, requiring two sureties, each of whom must also deposit ₦5 million. Unable to meet these conditions, Ogunjobi was remanded in prison custody.
The case has been adjourned to 6 March for further proceedings.
