Nigeria Police Force Tackles Cybercrime, Dismantles Thousands of Malicious Networks

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the dismantling of 5,049 malicious domains, networks, and cybercrime syndicates operating within and beyond Nigeria in 2024.
Addressing a press conference, NPF spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi highlighted the achievements of the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC). Over the year, the centre recovered over ₦8 billion and $84,000, which were restituted to victims of cybercrime. These operations led to 751 arrests, 685 device recoveries, and 14 convictions.
The confiscated items included 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops, 46 routers, four servers, one drone, 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles.
In early 2024, the NPF-NCCC relaunched its Cybercrime E-Reporting System, enabling citizens to report incidents such as sextortion, cyberstalking, and cryptocurrency scams more efficiently.
The centre’s efforts earned it recognition as Africa’s best cybercrime unit in 2024 by INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate, Singapore. Other accolades included the “2024 Award for Nation Building in Cybersecurity Services” and the “Cybersecurity Merit Award” by the Cybersecurity Experts Association of Nigeria.
