NECO Reports High Passing Rate in 2023 SSCE

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that 737,308 candidates who took the June/July 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) have passed with at least five credits, including English language and Mathematics, representing 61.60 percent.

The results were released in Minna, Niger State, with Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wishishi, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, highlighting that a total of 1,013,611 candidates, or 84.68 percent, achieved at least five credits regardless of whether English language and Mathematics were included.

Professor Wushish expressed his satisfaction, stating, “The 2023 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) Internal is certified as one of the best in recent times. We are grateful to all those who made this possible and to God.”

He also provided information about candidates with special needs, noting that 1,542 candidates had such needs, including 913 with hearing impairment, 162 with visual impairment, 103 with Albinism, 61 with Autism, 149 with low vision, and 154 with Adermatogglyphia (lack of fingerprints).

Additionally, the NECO Registrar/Chief Executive mentioned that there were 12,030 cases (0.07 percent) of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2023, down from 13,594 cases (0.13 percent) in 2022, representing a decrease of 61.60 percent.
