Autopsy Report Inconclusive on Mohbad’s Cause of Death

A forensic scientist and pathologist from Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Professor Sunday Osiyemi, informed the coroner investigating the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, that the autopsy results were inconclusive.

Professor Osiyemi explained to Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi that the delay in conducting the autopsy—approximately 21 days after Mohbad’s death—resulted in significant decomposition, making it difficult to determine the cause of death.

Wahab Shittu, counsel for Mohbad’s family, provided further details, noting that the pathologist emphasized the importance of exhuming a body within 12 hours of burial to prevent decomposition. Shittu said, “The summary is that the cause of death cannot be ascertained, which implies it is suspicious and unclear.”

The pathologist also mentioned that certain drugs administered to Mohbad before his death could have caused a reaction, complicating the determination of the cause of death. Shittu added, “He stated that while the drugs might have contributed to the death, there is no certainty if they were the actual cause.”

The coroner has scheduled the cross-examination of the pathologist for June 11th.
