Deadly Fire at Zamfara Islamic School Claims 17 Lives, Injures 16zamfara

A devastating fire outbreak at an Islamic school in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State has claimed the lives of at least 17 Almajiri students, leaving 16 others injured.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire erupted late on Tuesday night and raged for approximately three hours before it was extinguished.

A local resident, Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura, disclosed that the fire started at Makaranta Mallam Ghali’s study hall, where over 100 students were present. He said the fire was likely caused by stored sticks, locally known as kara.

“The fire broke out while they were inside the study hall. After evacuating the students, it was assumed that everyone had been rescued. It was only after the fire was put out that we discovered burnt bodies, some beyond recognition,” he said.

The 17 deceased students were buried on Wednesday.

The Chairman of Kaura-Namoda Local Government, Comrade Mannir Muazu Haidara, confirmed the incident but stated that he was en route to the scene and would provide further details later.
