Court Reschedules Falana’s Defamation Suit Against Verydarkman to April 15

The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has adjourned the alleged defamation case filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, and his son, Folarin, popularly known as Falz, against social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM), to 15 April 2025.

Justice Matthias Dawodu granted the adjournment following a request from Verydarkman’s legal representatives, the law firm of Deji Adeyanju & Partners. The request was made through a letter dated 18 February 2025, written by a counsel in the firm, Nafiu Alagbe. In the letter, the lawyer sought an adjournment to a date in March or April due to the unavailability of the lead defence counsel, Marvin Omorogbe, who was reportedly dealing with a “domestic emergency.”

While Verydarkman was absent from court, Falana was present.

Counsel for the Falanas, Omotayo Olatunbosun, argued that the request for an adjournment was merely a “time-wasting tactic” by the defence. However, following the court’s directive, he proceeded to move his counter-affidavit challenging the preliminary objection filed by Verydarkman against the defamation suit.

Subsequently, Justice Dawodu adjourned the case to 15 April 2025 for a hearing.

In a related development, Channels Television has learned that following compliance with the ex parte application for a pre-emptive remedy granted by Justice Dawodu, the Falanas have now filed a substantive suit on the matter. The case has been assigned to Justice Fimisola Azeez, also of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
