Banker Awards 2024: Zenith Bank Wins ‘Bank of the Year, Nigeria’ Award

Zenith Bank Plc has been named the ‘Bank of the Year, Nigeria’ at The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards 2024. Announced by The Banker Magazine, part of the Financial Times Group, during a ceremony held in London on 4 December 2024, the award recognises Zenith Bank’s exceptional management, sound business model, and its commitment to sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
The ‘Bank of the Year’ award is one of the most prestigious in the global banking industry, contested by leading financial institutions across Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Americas.
Commenting on the recognition, Zenith Bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, stated:
“We are honoured to be recognised as the Bank of the Year, Nigeria. This achievement reflects the trust of our esteemed customers, the visionary leadership of our Board and Management, and the dedication of our staff. Dr Umeoji also lauded the visionary role of Zenith Bank’s Founder and Chairman, Jim Ovia, CFR, in establishing the bank as a globally recognised institution known for innovation and exceptional value creation.
As part of its global expansion strategy, Zenith Bank recently launched a Paris branch following regulatory approval by France’s Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR).
The bank has received numerous accolades, including being ranked Nigeria’s Number One Bank by Tier-1 Capital for the 15th consecutive year in The Banker Magazine’s 2024 Top 1000 World Banks Ranking. Other recent honours include the ‘Most Sustainable Bank, Nigeria’ at the 2023 and 2024 International Banker Awards, and multiple awards for corporate governance and innovation.
