Chinese National Sentenced to Death for Murdering Nigerian Girlfriend in Kano

A Kano High Court, located on Miller Road, has sentenced Frank Geng-Quangrong, a Chinese national residing in Railway Quarters, Kano, to death by hanging for the murder of his Nigerian girlfriend in 2022.
Frank was found guilty on a charge of culpable homicide, following an incident on September 16, 2022, at Janbulo Quarters in Kano. According to the Prosecution Counsel and Attorney-General of Kano State, Haruna Dederi, Frank stabbed the deceased with a knife at her residence in Janbulo Quarters around 9 p.m. on the said date. The victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji stated, “The prosecution has proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The defendant’s testimony is inconsistent. I hereby find him guilty.” Justice Ado-Ma’aji further recommended mercy on behalf of the convict to the Kano State Governor.
During the trial, the prosecution presented six witnesses and four exhibits to support their case against Frank. The defence counsel, Muhummad Dan’azumi, on the other hand, presented Frank, another witness, and five exhibits to defend his client. Dan’azumi urged the court to consider recommending the defendant for prerogative of mercy as stipulated in Section 313 of the ACJL.
In his defence, Frank claimed, “I didn’t kill Ummulkhulsum intentionally but stabbed her in self-defence after she grabbed my testes.” He pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy in its judgement.
After the verdict, the victim’s mother, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, expressed satisfaction with the judge’s decision while speaking with journalists.
