Super Eagles Secure Quarter-Final Spot with 2-0 Victory over Indomitable Lions

Ademola Lookman’s two goals, one in each half, propelled Nigeria’s Super Eagles to a 2-0 victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday night, securing their place in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Played at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, the venue of Cameroon’s past triumphs, the game showcased the Super Eagles’ dominance as they extended their unbeaten run against Cameroon to five successive competitive matches.

Initially, Semi Ajayi appeared to give Nigeria an early lead with a close-range poke after nine minutes. However, a VAR review ruled the West Brom defender offside, denying the Super Eagles what they believed was the opening goal.

The turning point came when Oumar Gonzalez’s mistimed touch allowed Victor Osimhen to seize on the loose ball, advancing and feeding through Lookman. The Cameroonian goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa fumbled Lookman’s shot into the net, giving Nigeria a well-deserved lead.

Nigeria continued to assert themselves in the second half, with Lookman securing his second goal in injury time. He capitalized on Calvin Bassey’s low cross, slamming the ball into the net. With this victory, Nigeria advances to the quarter-finals, where they will face Angola, winners against Namibia earlier in the day.
