Dvido, Burna Boy, Tems Lose Out At The Grammy Awards

The 2024 Grammy Awards proved to be a disappointing night for Nigerian Afrobeats sensations including Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and Asake, as none of them secured victories in their respective categories despite receiving a combined 10 nominations across five different sections.

In the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category, the South African singer Tyla clinched the award for her song “Water,” outshining the Nigerian contenders.

Notably, Burna Boy, the recipient of the Best Global Album in 2021, lost out this time to Shakti, an Indian band whose album “This Moment” triumphed over both Burna Boy and Davido in their respective categories.
The Best Global Music Performance category saw Burna Boy and Davido facing defeat, as Indian composer Zakir Hussain claimed the accolade.

In the Best Melodic Rap category, Lil Durk’s “All My Life” emerged victorious over Burna Boy’s nominated track, even though Burna Boy was slated to perform at the live ceremony.

Tems, a previous Grammy winner, faced defeat in the Song Written for Visual Media category, with Billie Eilish’s song for the movie ‘Barbie’ prevailing over her work on the Black Panther theme song.
