Atiku, El-Rufai, Tambuwal Mull Strong Opposition Ahead of 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hinted at plans by major political parties to form a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Atiku made the disclosure on Thursday during a courtesy visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna.

He was accompanied by former governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Jibrilla Bindow (Adamawa), and Achike Udenwa (Imo), among others.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Atiku said the delegation had gone to offer Sallah greetings.

When asked about the possible link between the visit and plans for an opposition coalition, he said, “Yes, there are plans for the major political parties to come together and form a strong opposition. But that was not the purpose of our visit today.”

Atiku later shared details of the meeting on his verified X handle, writing: “It was a wonderful time with former President Buhari. As usual, he cracked me up with his peculiar humour.” He added that his Sallah activities in Adamawa had prevented an earlier visit.

El-Rufai, who was accompanied by some of his former aides, echoed similar sentiments. “We are here to pay a Sallah visit to former President Buhari because I wasn’t around during the celebrations,” he said.

The visit comes days after governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also paid a courtesy visit to the former president.
