Awujale Stool: Abiodun Rejects Intimidation Claims, Reaffirms Respect for Tradition
Ogun State Governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, has dismissed reports alleging a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes over the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.
According to the statement, the governor held a respectful and consultative meeting with members of the Council of Afobajes, consistent with previous engagements he had with the Olori Ebis, which were previously polarised but later harmonised through dialogue.
The statement noted that, through similar consultations in the past, the governor successfully persuaded one of the kingmakers to withdraw a filed litigation, thereby promoting peace and unity in traditional affairs.
“The discussions focused on matters of mutual concern in the interest of progress in traditional affairs within Ijebuland,” Mr. Akinmade said.
He added that allegations suggesting the governor issued threats or ultimatums were entirely unfounded. “Contrary to the rumours, Governor Abiodun did not issue threats or ultimatums. Statements attributed to him, including ‘No Kuye, No Awujale,’ are completely fabricated and bear no relation to the governor or his administration,” he said.
According to the adviser, no member of the Council of Afobajes can attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened, describing the allegations as the handiwork of mischief-makers.
The statement further reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to due process, respect for the autonomy of traditional institutions, and the promotion of a fair and transparent process in the selection of a new Awujale.
“His administration continues to prioritise dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values,” the statement read.
It added that Governor Abiodun holds the Awujale throne in high esteem, a fact the statement said he has consistently demonstrated through his actions and conduct.
Members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media were urged to disregard the unfounded allegations and rely solely on verified information from official sources.
