Wike Denies Promising to Deliver PDP to Tinubu Ahead of 2027
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he promised to deliver the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr. Wike made the clarification during a media chat at his office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Monday, while responding to allegations by the Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde.
Governor Makinde had alleged that Mr. Wike was behind the crisis within the PDP and the wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a purported statement in which Mr. Wike allegedly promised to “hold PDP” for President Tinubu.
Makinde said he regretted supporting President Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, claiming the outcome fell short of his expectations.
However, Mr. Wike dismissed the allegations, describing the Oyo State Governor as “frustrated”.
“There was no such meeting where I told the President that I would hold PDP for him. That is completely untrue and very unfair,” Mr. Wike said.
He added that Makinde lacked the courage to openly declare his presidential ambition, noting that politics required adherence to established rules and processes.
Mr. Makinde, during a separate media chat in Ibadan, said he possessed the capacity to contest for the presidency if he so desired.
