Tinubu Extends Customs Boss Adeniyi’s Tenure by One Year
President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of service for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Adeniyi’s tenure—originally due to expire on 31 August 2025—has been extended to allow him consolidate ongoing reforms and complete key initiatives.
Onanuga noted that the reforms include the modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, implementation of the National Single Window Project, and fulfilment of Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“The President acknowledges Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and dedication to public service. He is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Customs Service in fulfilling its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security,” the statement read.
Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General of Customs in October 2023, after initially serving in an acting capacity following the departure of his predecessor, Hameed Ali, in June of that year.
