The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced it will present certificates of return on Thursday to winners of the 16 August by-elections.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.

The presentation for senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect will take place at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja at 3 p.m. Recipients include winners from Anambra South and Edo Central senatorial districts, and representatives from constituencies in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo States.

For State Houses of Assembly, the certificates will be presented by Resident Electoral Commissioners in state offices on Friday, 22 August, at 11 a.m.

Olumekun added that a rerun election will be conducted on 21 August in five polling units of Kaura Namoda South State Constituency, Zamfara, where violence disrupted the earlier process.

He recalled that 16 by-elections and two court-ordered reruns were conducted nationwide on 16 August.

The reruns, earlier marred by violence, were concluded in Enugu and Kano, with Labour Party’s Ngene Bright Emeka and APC’s Ya’u Garba Gwarmai emerging victorious in their respective constituencies.
