EFCC and ICPC Recover ₦277bn and $105m in 2024, Says AGF Fagbemi

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has announced that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) collectively recovered ₦277 billion and $105 million in 2024.

Speaking at an asset recovery summit in Abuja, Fagbemi detailed that the EFCC reclaimed over ₦248 billion, $105 million, and 753 duplexes linked to corruption. The ICPC recovered ₦29.685 billion in cash and $966,900 in assets.

Fagbemi also highlighted international collaborations resulting in the repatriation of $763.7 million and £6.47 million since 2017, including $102.88 million and £2.06 million recovered between 2024 and the present.

He emphasised the implementation of transparent mechanisms for managing repatriated assets, including civil society oversight and independent audits, to ensure their utilisation in critical infrastructure projects.

Despite these successes, Fagbemi acknowledged ongoing challenges in cross-border asset recovery and stressed the need for continued international cooperation and transparency in asset management.
