Tinubu Secures APC 2027 Ticket in Landslide Victory, Unveils Vision for Second Term
President Bola Tinubu on Sunday accepted the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after securing a landslide victory in the party’s nationwide direct presidential primary.
Tinubu was formally declared winner of the primary following the collation of results from the country’s 8,809 wards across all 774 local government areas.
The President defeated his sole challenger, APC chieftain and businessman, Mr. Stanley Osifo, from Edo State, polling 10,999,162 votes against Osifo’s 16,503 votes.
The Chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Senator Pius Anyim, announced the results at the collation centre located at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
“I am also to confirm that there were two aspirants in the APC 2026 presidential primary election, namely the incumbent President, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Mr. Stanley Osifo,” Anyim said.
“Mr. President, the election has been collated, the results have been computed, and I can say, on behalf of the committee, that the following are the records of the election.
“Across the country, a total of 12,643,306 voters were registered in our party. For the purpose of this election, 11,069,756 voters were accredited. After accreditation, 11,015,665 voters cast their ballots.
“On behalf of the committee, I am delighted to announce that the aspirants received votes as follows: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, received a total of 10,999,162 votes, while Mr. Stanley Osifo received 16,503 votes.”
Anyim added: “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, it is therefore my duty as the returning officer for this primary election to declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines, and having scored the highest number of votes, as the winner of the presidential primary election and the duly returned presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election.”
Following the announcement, Tinubu received the APC flag and his certificate of return from the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.
In his acceptance speech, Tinubu thanked party members and leaders for their support and pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms and deepen national development if re-elected in 2027.
“Today, we celebrate another proud moment in our democratic journey, a history not defined by any individual, but by our collective resolve,” the President said.
Tinubu recalled how he emerged as the party’s candidate in 2022 and later became President with the support of party members and Nigerians.
“Today, I return as your incumbent President, humbled by your enduring support and encouraged by your continued confidence,” he said.
The President stated that the task before the party was to sustain continuity, consolidate reforms, and strengthen the foundation of a modern Nigeria.
“I accept, with humility and profound gratitude, the nomination of our great party, the APC, to stand again as its presidential candidate,” he said.
Tinubu also expressed appreciation to governors, members of the National Working Committee, lawmakers, and party faithful for sustaining the unity and strength of the APC.
The President commended Nigerians for supporting what he described as the “difficult but necessary path of reform” embarked upon by his administration.
According to him, the government had implemented major structural reforms, strengthened public finances, and improved revenue generation through new tax and fiscal policies.
“We promised to remove the financial barriers to higher education for our youth. Today, we have established the Nigerian Education Loan Fund,” he said.
Tinubu disclosed that more than N282 billion had been disbursed to over 1.5 million beneficiaries under the student loan scheme.
On power sector reforms, the President said the administration had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters and established a N4 trillion bond programme to settle legacy debts owed to GENCOs and GASCOs.
“Under our administration, power generation has sometimes peaked at 6,000MW, which is 50 per cent higher than what we inherited,” he said.
Tinubu stated that his government had also removed fuel subsidy, unified exchange rates, and initiated reforms aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and investor confidence.
The President said the administration had prioritised infrastructure projects in transportation, power, housing, irrigation, and digital connectivity to drive inclusive growth and industrialisation.
“We are building concrete, durable roads and superhighways along the coast and on the Sokoto-Badagry route that will last for over 100 years,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged that many Nigerians still faced economic hardship and rising living costs, but assured citizens that the government remained focused on delivering lasting solutions.
The President also addressed insecurity, assuring Nigerians that his administration remained committed to restoring peace and strengthening the country’s security architecture.
He urged the National Assembly to expedite constitutional amendments to allow the establishment of state police across the federation.
“We also expect the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to allow the creation of state police as a matter of national emergency,” he said.
Tinubu said his administration would continue pursuing industrialisation, energy security, food sufficiency, infrastructure development, and democratic consolidation.
“Our mission remains clear: to build a Nigeria where every life is secure, where enterprise thrives, and where young people find opportunity,” he said.
He called for national unity and urged Nigerians across political, ethnic, and regional divides to work together for the country’s progress.
Tinubu also pledged to build a more inclusive government and continue serving Nigerians with sincerity, commitment, and renewed determination.
“I pledge to build an even more inclusive government, one that listens, learns, and leads with the best interests of all Nigerians at heart,” the President said.
